Thanks for stopping by! This blog is now hibernating because we have a great new home for all of the WordPress mobile apps: http://make.wordpress.org/mobile. See you there!

When I move between Android devices, I use Helium to back up first. Helium uses Androids built-in backup system, and some apps specifically disallow this backup for security purposes (Google Authenticator is an example). The WordPress app blocks this type of backup. Any reason why?

So right after I released 2.3.2 on Wednesday, a report came in from a user that he couldn’t set a featured image any longer. So that means 2.3.3 is coming soon 🙂 It was an easy fix so will most likely release it on Monday.

Here’s the 2.3.3 build to try over the weekend: http://bit.ly/YsNUSm

Also, Google was very kind and featured the app in the ‘Play Picks’ section of Google Play! Check it out:

The 2.3.2 release is nearly ready. It fixes a few small (but important) issues as well as adds a new feature!

    • Allows access to front-facing cameras on supported devices. Thanks for the patch shooh
    • Manifest fix so that the app *should* be available for devices that don’t have GPS or network location.
    • You can add comments to posts! Thanks for the patch jamesjhu
    • Small bug fixes and reliability improvements

    Here’s the build: http://bit.ly/18g0IKS

p.s. The latest commits haven’t been added to git or svn yet because of a problem with the server. As soon as it is back online I will push the latest changes and update related trac tickets.

Note to devs: There’s a new version of ActionBarSherlock out, please update your local version of the library. Using the new version should fix #510 so that’s a win.

Even with all of the major changes in 2.3, it looks like the release went really well! There’s been a few minor issues reported along with a few NullPointerExceptions that showed in the Google Play reports. @daniloercoli also discovered a bug where the app wasn’t persisting certain activities after you left the app.

Issues have been trac’d in the 2.3.1 milestone

All of these issues have been fixed up already and we’re on track for a 2.3.1 release on Monday. Build can be found here if you want to try it out over the weekend: http://bit.ly/11LQpNq

Thanks to everyone (over 150 of you!) that tried out the 2.3 beta! There was a lot of great feedback (a.k.a bugs) that came in that we fixed last week. There were actually quite a few changes so it makes sense to do a second beta to make sure it is a solid release.

Here’s a few things that have changed since beta 1:

    • Updated translations
    • Posts/Pages list doesn’t reset when rotating or viewing post preview
    • ActionBar added to Edit Comment view
    • Fixed welcome screen layout in landscape

    So, try out beta 2!

    Download it here:

As always, post feedback here or in a trac ticket.

It’s about time for the 2.3 beta which…

It’s about time for the 2.3 beta, which is chock-full of awesome UI updates. ActionBar? Check. MenuDrawer? Check. More Holo goodness? Triple-check.

Because of all the UI updates, we’d really like your help in beta testing this new release. If you could please report in on which device you have tested with, it would really help us as well. In general, please poke around with the new UI and features, and let us know what you like/don’t like. If something is broken, be sure to let us know as well!

Here’s the download link, make sure your device allows installation from ‘Unknown Sources’ so that you can install the app.

While the beta is going I’m going to reach out to the WP-Polyglots to get the translation strings updated.

    Here’s a screenie, too:

Very nice!! Looks very good. Will play around with it. Where should I post things I find (i.e. bugs / questions, etc.?) Here?

Noticed that the reader javascript interface wasn’t working on the signed build. I fixed it just now and updated the build at the same link above.

I upgraded and have two main issues:
      1) It quit working on one of my sites but not others (even on the same server). The first difference that comes to mind is that my personal site that it broke on (http://geekreprieve.com) is running trunk. What happens is that I get “Sorry, ____ could not be refreshed at this time. Please try again later.” for posts, pages, and comments.

      2) I’m on the S3 and there’s an option button built in. It seems that my natural reaction is to try to use that to open the sidebar, and I think that actually makes a lot of sense.

Hmm, are you running many plugins on geekreprieve.com?

        • Aaron D. Campbell 12:36 pm on March 29, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply

          Not too many. I’m using:

          Akismet
          Efficient Related Posts
          Jetpack
          Public Post Preview
          Subscribe To Comments
          Twitter Widget Pro
          WP Google Analytics

I disabled all of them and tried again…same thing. If you want to hit me up on Skype chat (aarondcampbell) I’d be happy to give you whatever might help track it down.

Works well. I can’t seem to break it. Once the javascript thing was fixed my reader worked (which is mostly what I use the app for). Well done. Are there specific things we should try to test out / functionality to exercise?

Looks lovely, *but* the WordPress icon has disappeared. The icon for the Play store version disappeared from the launcher (Nova Prime) and I couldn’t find it in the drawer either. I was able to add it to the launcher again with a long press and picking the right option. It was in the launcher’s list of apps.

That’s weird, I wonder if the launcher you are using only works well with apps from Google Play?
